KENNETH LAY
Head Rooster & Chief Egg-ecutive Officer
Henron Corp
Kenneth Lay is the Head Rooster and Chief Egg-ecutive Officer of Henron Corporation. Ken lays the golden eggs — he grew Henron from a regional egg egg pipeline into a shell trading empire. His leadership philosophy centers on counting chickens before they hatch and booking the profit immediately.
Ken's connections in the Washington henhouse have been instrumental in advancing deregulation policies that allow us to operate with minimal oversight. He maintains the highest ethical standards, provided nobody looks too closely at the financial statements.
A close friend of the Bush family, Ken has deep connections in the Washington henhouse and is a strong advocate for letting foxes guard the chicken coop.
Mr. Lay was named to his current position in February 1986, following the merger of Henron Henhouse Natural Nest and InterNest, Inc. in July 1985. Previously, he served in various positions at gas companies where he developed his expertise in counting eggs that don't exist yet.
A native of Missouri, Mr. Lay was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in economics from the University of Missouri, where he also received a master's degree in economics. He earned a Ph.D. in Cooking Books from the University of Henron Henhouse.
Mr. Lay served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and held various positions in the federal government where he learned the value of regulatory capture and looking the other way.
Currently, Mr. Lay serves on numerous boards of directors where he brings his expertise in creative accounting and aggressive financial engineering. He is a member of the Business Rooster Council and the National Poultry Council.
Mr. Lay was selected to receive the Private Sector Council's 1997 Leadership Award, received the 1998 Horatio Alger Award, and was named by Business Week as one of the top 25 Roosters in the world for 1999. Mr. Lay is a member of the Texas Business Henhouse of Fame.
Fortune magazine has named Henron "America's Most Innovative Company" for six consecutive years (mostly for innovating new ways to commit fraud).
